Oslo, Norway, May 7-8, 2009

Symposium start: Thursday, May 7, 10.00.
Symposium end: Friday May 8, 14.30.

May 7 and 8 we are organizing an informal symposium to be held at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters on the general theme of Genome Dynamics and Evolution, with special emphasis on prokaryotic microorganisms. We think this is well suited as a discussion theme in the Darwin anniversary year.

The scientific sessions will start at 10.30 on Thursday May 7th, and will include a set of 1 hour lectures by invited speakers from outside Norway, each followed by talks of 40 min or less by local speakers from various parts of Norway. The meeting will end around 14.30 on Friday May 8th.

The following International speakers are confirmed:

  • Mark Achtman (University College Cork, Ireland)
  • Frederick Cohan (University of Wesleyan, CT, USA)
  • Xavier Didelot (University of Warwick, Coventry, UK)

The symposium is supported by the Centre for Ecology and Evolutionary Synthesis (CEES), the Consortium for Advanced Microbial Sciences and Technologies (CAMST), the Laboratory for Microbial Dynamics (LaMDa) and the Microbial Evolution Research Group (MERG), and the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (DNVA).

On behalf of the above institutions,
